WOMAN - pure levity

Dear men,

What I am now, when I suppose that there is some supremely powerful and, if I may be permitted to say so, malicious deceiver who deliberately tries to fool me in any way he can.”

- said she.

The world never gets enough of problems and issues. And any situation that looks like a part of what you might call the process of the world’s growing up is a world deteriorating so fast.

What used to be problems before aren’t so now, depending on outlook. But
by this point in time, an increasing number of women are becoming ever more frustrated with their suppressed position in society. And what was to maintain? A demure manner, a composed façade and a delicate disposition with a distain for all things - violent and vulgar.

Women, as we all know, form half of the human beings inhabiting Earth. In this courtly sphere of life, the ability to distinguish between that which is real and that which is deceitful is of utmost importance. Since there was a huge disparity in the treatment of men and women back then, the theme of condemning is so much visible. Married women were legally dead in the eyes of the law; women were not allowed to vote until August 1920; women were not permitted to enter professions such as medicine or law; women were not consented to participate in church affairs; and much worst, they thought of themselves as totally dependent on men. These words seem to correlate directly the insanity our world has gone.

Furthermore, if you ask a young girl what she wants to be when she grows up, she may tell you she wants to be a doctor, a lawyer or even a teacher. That is what any child would perceive their future to become, just like their parents. But what that little girl is unaware of, is that if she had lived a little over 150 years ago, her future dreams would be quite different. Women living a life of religious freedom, having a voice in government and attending schools are normal in our everyday lives as we reach the new millennium. However, women did not always have an identical say or chance in life that is why they set up as the battle cry of acquiescence the three words Equality, Feminism and Change.

EQUALITY. It is mainly the word that has received attention. The definition of equality is having the same measure or values as another. There, it remained desired, pursued, yet never attained because it was never understood. For decades, women fought for this description to be true amongst males and females. Since all human beings have privileges of all human rights, women are too. Women’s rights around the world are important indicators to understand global well-being. By the same token, a society in which men are not willing to extend these to their mothers, the women who bore and nurtured them; their daughters, products of their own loins; and their wives, the women who bore and raised their treasured sons, is a society in which men are unwilling to extend human rights to men of another family, tribe, language, religion, race, ethnic tradition or nation. If a society does not hold justice and equality for all women in the highest regard, neither will it hold justice and equality for the many varieties of men in high regard. In a very real sense, women's are the basis of all human rights. These liberties belong to women as members of the human family, and, as such, are not dependent either on her marital status or on the number or sex of the children she has born.

FEMINISM. This can help women respect their own power, to make use of their power effectively in a way which maintains that respect and extends it to others. Our women of today’s hopes have created an overpowering sense of the sacredness of life, so that conflict will be unthinkable; so that when international disputes arise, even of the most grave character-when lives have been lost, when our rights have been clearly invaded-we shall not turn to wholesale, deliberate destruction of life as the means of settling those disputes, of avenging those deaths and of asserting those rights.

CHANGE as the immutable law of nature. Women continually strived to improve her own handiwork by being true to her perennial quest for perfection. In order to achieve this, she willingly undergone change and accepted her flaws as a human being. From the last hundred years, women have seen equal freedom and rights as men. In different communities and cultures, the standing of women developed and reached a high position. Women have come a long way since their times of suppression and male-dominance, to oppress their thoughts and talents. Now, they have conquered respect for themselves and are able to work in the same place as men, vote with men and are considered duly equal to men. Many great women have struggled through their lives to bring over this change. The foundation of colleges for women challenged the world’s views on women’s conventional positions. Women have fought strongly through ages for all their rights. Not only men started venerating women but this change encouraged women for confidence. Nowadays both women and men do the household work. There is less discrimination and a woman holds an honorable position in a man’s life. They have equal responsibilities and walk hand in hand. Women participate in all activities of men and prove them that they’re equally skillful and challenging. Great women around the world have set examples for men as well as women. Marie Curie in the field of physics; Charlotte Bronte and Toni Morrison in Literature; Queen Victoria, Margaret Thatcher and Indira Gandhi in Politics Barbara Walters in Journalism; Maria Montessori and Florence Nightingale in social work and medicine; and Coco Chanel in fashion designing, have contributed immensely in their respective fields. Women like Helen Keller and Mother Teresa changed the thoughts about women.

Until women are liberated from poverty and injustice, all our goals – peace, security and sustainable development shall stand in simplicity. Women are indeed lifters of facility to achieving development and victory.

Women, indeed. Babae, Tagumpay ka ng Bayan!
